Ms. Haakonsen has practiced law since 1978. Her principal areas of practice are family law, mediation, medical malpractice litigation and other civil litigation. She also has extensive experience in real estate. Ms. Haakonsen is a frequent speaker at law and mediation conferences around New England.

Kate is admitted to practice in Connecticut and in the U.S. District Court for Connecticut, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. She is a member of the Connecticut Bar Association where she serves on the Family Section Executive and Legislative Committees; the Hartford County Bar Association where she is co-chair of the Family Law Committee; the Association for Conflict Resolution, which is a nationwide organization of mediators and arbitrators; and the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association.

She is a charter member and past president of the Connecticut Counsel for Divorce Mediation and a past president of the Hartford Association of Women Attorneys. She is a Special Master in the Hartford, Middlesex and Tolland Judicial District Family Divisions and serves as an Attorney Trial Referee for civil matters in the Hartford Judicial District.

Ms. Haakonsen is a graduate of Ursinus College (B.A., Cum Laude, 1975) and the University of Connecticut School of Law (J.D., 1978). In addition, she has over 200 hours of training in mediation.
